I’d like you introduce you to Girolama Maria Caterina Lucido. She was born in Capaci on March 26th, 1796 to parents Antonino Lucido & Rosa Bruno. Girolama was a levatrice (midwife). I first find her on record when she delivered Salvatore Lucido in Isola delle Femmine in 1822. I have attached the civil birth record for Salvatore’s birth. It notes that Girolama lives in “Tonnara Isola delle Femmine” and she is 28 years old (actually she is 26). From this day forward, she gave birth to most all Lucido’s in Isola delle Femmine until just before her death in 1850. Her final documented delivery of a Lucido was for Rosario Lucido in November of 1849. Girolama passed away less than a year later in September of 1850 at the young age of 54. Another interesting note about Girolama. She married Giuseppe Di Maggio, the brother of Joe DiMaggio’s 2nd great grandfather Gaetano DiMaggio. In fact Gaetano Di Maggio married Giuseppa Lucido and Sister Maria Di Maggio married Salvatore Lucido. It was common at the time for siblings to marry siblings. However, in these cases all of the Di Maggio siblings married Lucido who were more distantly related. Girolama Lucido and her husband Giuseppe Di Maggio had nine children from 1812-1839. Her granddaughter Rosa Di Maggio married Gaetano Lucido (I recently posted a large family photo of them and their descendants). One last point of interest. Girolama’s brothers Francesco, Salvatore and Marco Lucido and their children settled San Vito lo Capo. So most all San Vito lo Capo Lucido today are descendants of Girolama’s brothers.
